Why This Matters
In my Ultimate Base Guide series, I’ve explored the best places to build your base, and the type of realm combined with the weather you cast using minor cards can significantly improve its look. There are many unique themes you can choose from. It could be a haunted swamp mansion, a castle by a lake, or a whimsical mage tower perched on a seaside cliff. Selecting the right realm-weather combo is key to making your base stand out.
To start, I’ve prepared a small timelapse video to show how diverse the realms in Nightingale can be. This is just 3 realms, and 2 cards, yet they are so different!
How to Change the Weather in Nightingale
Each realm features a Realmic Transmuter, always marked on your map, making it easy to locate. Alternatively, you can build a Remote Realmic Transmuter, play your card, and dismantle it when you’re done.
The cards you play are called Minor cards. There are 58 different Minor cards in total, but I won’t list them all here. These cards usually provide specific effects, such as crafting boosts, performance stats, or changing drop rates and yields. Some are crucial for specific tasks, like those mentioned in my Tier 4 Fabled Harpy Meat Guide. In addition to affecting weather and freezing the time of day, Minor cards also influence realm lighting and even alter the greenery’s color, similar to changing seasons.
How Many Nightingale Realm Combinations Exist?
There are 48 Major Realm cards, which open portals to different realms. From this, we can exclude 18 Ascended Worlds (as they are tougher versions of regular realms) and 3 Fae Vaults (where weather doesn’t change), leaving us with 27 Realms.
With 58 Minor cards to customize weather, we’re looking at 1,566 combinations. But that’s not all – the time of day (dawn, dusk, day, night) also plays a role in how everything looks. That brings us to 6,264 possible combinations.
Now, consider that 18 of these realms are procedurally generated, meaning no two are alike. The number of possible combinations? Essentially infinite!

My Favorite Realm and Weather Combinations
While ‘best’ is subjective and depends on your goals, and the number of Nightingale realm combinations can seem overwhelming, but I’ll break it down to make it easier to start with. pick the best weather card for your base here are some of my personal favorites:
- Trickster Minor Card with any realm: This card is great for tall buildings and saves you from incidents hehe. It creates stunning skies, especially at night. You can see this in the final clip of my video.
- Blood Moons: These cast eternal night with a red moon, perfect for building a vampire-like atmosphere in swamps or atop a castle ruin in Antiquarian Forests.
- Ghost Card with Swamp: This combo provides a haunting vibe, with changing weather and time of day for added variety.
- Quarry Card with Forests: The fog this card creates works well with dense forests, adding a cinematic depth by highlighting different background planes.
- Tempest Card with Desert: It turns deserts into wetlands, cooling down the environment and creating a stunning flat base-building area, especially around oases.
- BONUS: Alchemist, Explorer, and Artisan Cards: These create breathtaking cloud formations that complement almost any realm.

Final Thoughts
Minor cards are cheap, so before committing to a specific realm for your base, use a Remote Transmuter to experiment with different card combinations. Find the one that best complements your settlement’s look and feel, then build your perfect home in Nightingale.
