July Updates – Big News, Rifter Flights, and Google Troubles

I’ve got a big bunch of KekBur updates, so I bundled everything together into one post and decided to share some exciting news with all my dear followers. This month had a bit of everything – good news, creative projects, small disasters, and some personal wins. If you’re following what I do, there’s a lot worth dropping here.

The Official Status

Probably the most exciting part: KekBur got official press accreditation for Devcom 2025 and Gamescom 2025! But wait – there’s more. I also got invited as an expert guest for Courage Cologne 2025, where I’ll try to help indie game developers get the spotlight they deserve, or at least share some feedback and hard-earned experience.

So yeah – I’m flying to Cologne at the end of August, yay!

Crowded halls of Gamescom 2024

It’ll be my 8th time at the fair as press, but this time I’m going fully independent: no editors, no fixed schedule, just me doing what I love. But, independence comes at a cost – quite literally. The whole trip (transport, stay, food) is coming straight from my own wallet.

To give you an idea: a 4-star hotel near the venue can cost you $6,000 for four nights. That’s wild. That’s why I’m using my usual lifehack – booking a place in nearby towns like Bonn or Siegburg and use public transport, which can cut the cost in half or more. I’ve already booked everything and covered the main expenses myself – so I’m not setting any fancy Ko-fi goals. But if you’d like to support this trip or just toss a thank-you my way, it’ll still go straight into the project (gear, coffee, data, all the good stuff).

And of course, everyone who drops me a coffee will get a mention in the Gamescom report as one of my sponsors – unless you’d prefer to stay anonymous.

What to Expect from My Gamescom Trip

Right now, I’m busy negotiating with PR agencies and developers for interview slots – planning to land around 15 exclusive interviews. On top of that, I’ll do a full event coverage, just like I did for Devcom 2024 and Gamescom 2024.

I even booked an extra day just to chase down cosplayers – so expect more photos and a better cosplay gallery this year. I’m also working on something special: connecting with industry folks to create a feature series on two hot topics:

  • The current role of AI in game development.
  • The future of Web3 in gaming, including digital ownership and its challenges.

And yes – I’ll try to shoot another Blitz session, similar to my last video from Fanfest. Your 25 likes were a clear signal that this type of content hits home. That video is probably my most liked content so far!

But, if you’re expecting coverage of big flashy AAA titles – well, that’s what IGN and Eurogamer are for. I’ll be focusing on the Indie Arena Booth and the underdogs – the passionate teams doing wild things with no budget, no marketing, and 200% heart. My kind of crowd hehe

The Google Ice

Now onto something less fun – site visibility. Still a mess.

I recently discovered a really harmful issue with Gemini auto search – it pulled some of my promo text from Facebook, mashed it with unrelated game info, and published it as an answer. Super misleading and potentially damaging. So yeah, I’ve temporarily disabled my Facebook page until I can build a proper trust with Google.

Where are my tackling modules and marauders?!

Also tried turning on Google Ads for a week – just to test a theory: if your site runs AdSense, maybe Google starts treating you like a partner and crawls your site more? The result?

  • I earned a glorious $3.14 (thank you kind stranger who clicked few banners)
  • Site visibility? Zero improvement
  • My blog looked… horrible with banners plastered everywhere

That experiment is over. I’m back to “keep calm and generate content” mode.

The Rifter Project

Remember when I posted about my little Rifter ship on X before Fanfest 2025?
Well, surprise – I actually brought it with me, filmed it everywhere, and just dropped the trailer! Sure, I could’ve done it in CGI and made something slicker, but I chose to keep the formula: real model, real camera, real locations.

After messing around with phone mounts and accessories, I hacked together a camera rig that mimics a third-person POV. Carrying that thing around – a full 5kg rig held out on extended arms – was no joke. Learned a lot in post too: the final 7-minute video was baked out of 300GB of footage and 150+ project files across various formats.

I’m super proud of how it turned out. Go check it out and let me know what you think!

That’s It for Now

That’s all for this update – but August will be huge. Gamescom prep is in full swing, the Rifter is flying, and my fingers are crossed that the next time I talk about Google, it’s for something positive.

Thanks for reading – and if you enjoy what I do, your coffee clicks, shares, and feedback keep this thing alive.

See you soon, o7
