Intro
After playing every early and beta playtest of EVE Vanguard, one thing kept me coming back: the tension of its stealthy combat. In those early builds, every shot you fired was a risk. It was hard to spot other players unless they sprinted in the open or made a noise, and just firing your weapon could reveal your position to everyone nearby. The result felt closer to a real military simulation than an arcade shooter, rewarding patience, awareness, and smart decision-making.
During my visit to Fanfest 2025, I interviewed CCP’s Game Director Scott Davis (CCP Collins), who explained that Vanguard’s new visual design will feature improved foe identification (see full interview here). The goal is clear: appeal to a broader audience by making enemies more visible and firefights more frequent, closer to mainstream shooters like Call of Duty or Halo. While this new direction will suit players who enjoy fast-paced action, I’ll admit I really enjoyed the old stealth-focused style, where every move mattered and every shot had consequences.
That got me thinking: is there a way to keep the intensity and tactical play for those who loved the original vibe? My answer: design a new ammo type that brings a fresh layer of battlefield control, while keeping edge-of-your-seat and sweaty-hands feeling alive.
Please note: This is not an official design and I do not work for CCP Games. This concept was created as part of a community challenge organized by JustAbout.com for EVE Vanguard Developers. Treat this as a fan-made pitch and a personal take on what could be added to the game.
New Ammo: Disrupt Rounds
Disrupt Rounds are a tactical ammunition type created for EVE Vanguard, designed to bring electronic warfare and battlefield control to infantry combat. Instead of maximizing stopping power, Disrupt Rounds use EMP tech (Electromagnetic Pulse) to disrupt enemy systems, trading raw damage for control effects that can swing a fight in your squad’s favor.

Core Mechanics
On impact, Disrupt Rounds deal significantly less direct damage than standard ballistic ammo. Instead, they emit a focused EMP pulse, inflicting a mild damage-over-time (DoT) effect for 15 seconds.
While the DoT is active, the target’s shield regeneration timer is paused. Shields will only start to regenerate after the DoT ends and the usual cooldown period has elapsed.
When hit, enemy Vanguards experience a total blackout of their combat suit’s electronic UI—including aiming crosshair, friend-or-foe (FoF) detection, and any digital minimap or radar. Players must rely purely on their own eyes and instincts for the duration, mimicking the chaos of real EMP warfare.
All negative effects can be cleared by consuming 25 units of biomass, which also grants a brief 5-second immunity to prevent instant reapplication.
Tactical Role and Combat Usage
Disrupt Rounds aren’t for close-range brawls where damage output is everything. They’re outperformed by standard rounds in tight firefights, since fighting without a HUD isn’t as punishing up close. Instead, Disrupt Rounds shine at medium and long ranges, perfect for suppressing enemy positions and breaking shield-regeneration cycles. Use them to force enemies into cover for longer, suppress snipers, soften up positions for flanking, or help your squad by reducing enemy return fire accuracy.
Thanks to their damage-over-time effect, they’re also great for finishing off wounded foes. They also work well as a fight opener, spreading chaos and confusion for a follow-up sneak attack.

As a counter, squads can push more aggressively, close the gap, or use melee attacks and shotguns to minimize the effects of a lost HUD.
Quick Stats
- Damage on impact: 10% of standard kinetic ammo
- Over-time Damage: 2 damage/sec for 15 sec (total 30)
- Shield regen delay: Regen starts only after DoT plus normal cooldown
- Combat UI blackout: 6 seconds per hit, refreshes on each impact
- Ammo type: Assault Rifle, Sniper Rifle

“In New Eden, victory isn’t just about firepower—it’s about who controls the flow of battle. The Disrupt round isn’t meant to kill. It’s meant to make sure the other side never gets the chance.”

Pioneers of New Eden’s electronic warfare, Lai Dai Corporation now brings their signature disruption technology to the boots-on-the-ground battlefield. Disrupt Rounds carry micro-EMP payloads and advanced signal scramblers (developed from capsuleer ECM doctrines) designed to short out shields, force combat suits’ operating systems into a reboot cycle, and simultaneously scramble battlefield sensors and targeting interfaces. With Lai Dai innovation, even ground forces can taste the control once reserved for fleet engagements.
