Master Nightingale Essences: 10 Main Sources and Usage

Introduction

Welcome to this Nightingale essences guide! Essences are a form of currency in Nightingale, and since latest major game overhaul, used for various purposes such as crafting, gear upgrades, and unlocking schematics in the progress tree. In this Nightingale essence guide, I’ll cover essence tiers and their uses. How to use them effectively. To make it easier, I’ll refer to Tiers as simply ‘T’.

Where to Get Essences

Essences can be gathered from several sources in the game, including:

  1. Killing enemies – Chance from everyone and guaranteed drop from Whisps.
  2. Charm of the Essence – additional drop after defeating enemies.
  3. Harvesting crops – All sorts of crops can yield essences.
  4. Skinning animals – Earn essences from various animals.
  5. Discovering Echo logs – Lore-rich logs provide 5 essences.
  6. Destroying barrels – Found in dungeons and raids.
  7. Completing dungeons and raids – completions reward essences.
  8. Completing challenges – Such as might, agility, insight, and intellect.
  9. Petting your pet – Yields only 1 Tier essence, regardless of the realm or difficulty.
  10. Fishing – you get one Essence per catch

Essence Tiers

There are multiple tiers of essences, and the tier you collect depends on the realm card you’re using:

  • T1 – Abeyance
  • T2 – Antiquarian, Astrolabe
  • T3 – Gloom, Herbarium, Hunt, Provisioner
  • T4 – Apex Vault and any Ascended Realms

The amount of essence drops also depends on the difficulty level of the realm you’re in.

How to Use Essences

Nightingale Essences are vital for progressing through the game and upgrading your gear. Here are the key uses:

  • Progress Unlock – The tier of essences unlocks the corresponding tier in the progress tree (I have a separate post about Progression Tree feature).
  • Crafting – Used for some crafting recipes.
  • Infusions – Buffs for items are crafted using essences.
  • Repairs – T1 essences are required to repair items and restore their durability.
  • Upgrading Items – T4 essences are used to upgrade item rarity:
    • 25 for uncommon
    • 75 for rare
    • 150 for epic

Converting Essences

You can convert any tier of essences into Tier 1, but higher tiers can’t be converted to another lower tiers (e.g., T4 to T2). The conversion rates are as follows:

  • 1 Tier 2 = 25 Tier 1
  • 1 Tier 3 = 250 Tier 1
  • 1 Tier 4 = 2,500 Tier 1

To convert essences:

  1. Open your inventory and select the third tab, which contains essences.
  2. Right-click the essence and select Extract from the menu.
  3. A dialogue window will appear, allowing you to choose the amount you wish to convert.
