DOOM: Match to Die – A hellish puzzle spin-off arrives this May!

With DOOM: The Dark Ages set to unleash carnage on May 15, fans expected blood, demons, and bone-crunching action. What they didn’t expect? A surprise second release—DOOM: Match to Die, a mobile game inspired by the iconic match-3 genre. Yes, really.

Candy Crush with demons? Srsly?! But then I managed to get my hands on something even more curious—a piece of concept art. It’s more of a mock-up meant to showcase gameplay ideas, probably early sketches made by the studio’s lead artist, Emerson Tung. And once I took a closer look, it became clear: this is more than just gem-swapping fluff.

Become the Slayer… of puzzle grids?

You step into the blood-stained boots of the Slayer once again, but this time, you’re not just stacking bodies—you’re stacking skulls, rockets, and chainsaw fuel. Match 3 or more symbols to activate your iconic arsenal—like the Super Shotgun or the devastating new Shield Saw. Every match powers up your weapon and unleashes glorious violence on-screen.

Each level is structured like a mini-dungeon: waves of familiar hellspawn (say hi to Imps, Cacodemons, and Revenants) followed by an end-stage boss. Think Bejeweled meets boss rush.

Stand and Slay

Matching isn’t mindless. Your weapon of choice fires directly into demon faces with every match. Combo chains don’t just clear the board—they trigger Slayer buffs, weapon upgrades, or even signature Glory Kills. Picture a flaming pentagram chain reaction followed by a screen-wide BFG blast. Tactics and mayhem combined.

Best part? All of it blasts along to original Mike Gordon metal tracks, now remixed into chiptune-metal hybrids made for mobile chaos. It’s like your phone headbanged into Hell itself.

A DOOM for Everyone

It’s a bold move from id Software and Bethesda—while you’re busy dismembering demonic royalty in The Dark Ages on console or PC, your partner can kick back on the couch and tactically obliterate the same demons in pastel form. A Slayer for every screen. Btw, drop me a comment if you want me to make a full game review of DOOM: The Dark Ages once it’s released.

If you’ve made it this far with a straight face… congrats. You’ve just survived my April Fools’ post.

No, DOOM: Match to Die isn’t real—yet. But wouldn’t it be kind of amazing if it were?

Disclaimer: This article is an April Fools’ Day post. The Doom Match-3 game is fictional and not officially announced by any publisher (but who knows!).
