Stormforge Trailer And Playtest Announced

Awesome news everyone: Stormforge has a brand-new gameplay trailer and playtest sign-ups are now live!

You might wonder why I’m suddenly sharing this news. Well, because this game is a very strong candidate for my Featured Games section. The first time I saw it was during my interview with Curt Bererton, CEO and co-founder of Roboto Games, back at Gamescom 2024. As a big fan of Ghibli works, open-world survival crafting, cel-shaded art, and Zelda-like exploration… boi, it was an instant wishlist.

It was one of those rare moments when Curt started a sentence and I could finish it — a complete brain sync. That was awesome!

This year, sadly, I wasn’t able to interview Curt, but I did manage to squeeze into ICO Partner’s booth (they supporting Roboto Games with PR) and meet him and his wife, co-founder Mathilde Pignol, in between slots. They briefly showed me new features, a new boss fight, and all the bits. We agreed to stay in touch for future updates — and here we are!

Straight from the announcement

Roboto Games has lifted the curtain on Stormforge with a gameplay trailer and details of its first public playtest. Sign-ups are already live, with Early Access set for Q1 2026.

Stormforge Gameplay Trailer

The game drops players into islands plagued by magical storms. Each storm comes with unique mechanics, dangerous creatures, and rare resources that coube be harvested to progress. Stay too long without shelter, though, and the storm itself will consume you.

“The Game is about risk and reward in magical storms modeled after real world tornadoes, sandstorms and blizzards,” – said Curt.

Beyond surviving storms, the game promises procedurally generated lands filled with ruins, dungeons, treasures, and world bosses. Beating bosses unlocks new character classes and abilities, while gliders, boats, and even mod support expand what players can do across its co-op sandbox (up to 8 players).

The upcoming playtest will feature core systems including exploration, storms, combat, and base building. Players can wishlist Stormforge on Steam and sign up for the playtest here.

Why I’m Betting on Stormforge

Like I said — this project packs so much of what I love, it’s easily my most wanted game right now, an undeniable indie gem. Roboto Games is a small studio with fewer than 20 people, and Stormforge is not only their debut but also self-published.

The modding part is especially lucrative — it’s essentially a no-code game engine where you can control almost everything. It goes way beyond spawning mobs with set HP. You can define loot tables, behavior patterns, event reactions, even assign patrols or have NPCs chase each other. Add in the map editor, and suddenly Stormforge becomes a canvas to recreate almost any world — from a Zelda-style co-op adventure to a Spirited Away–inspired dungeon.

That’s why I believe the game is much deeper than it might look at first glance. And despite this being just a news flash, I could already talk for hours about how impactful it can become.

Exploration is key game’s element: every island hides secrets, ruins, and world bosses.

I don’t want to push you, but if the game clicks with you, please wishlist and follow it. Just like this blog, indie creators often run on nothing but your support — so go check it out!
