June Blog Update – 9 Months In and Still Growing

When I first launched this project back in September 2024, I had no idea where it would go. The original goal was simple: create a private corner for my ideas and thoughts. But after a few months, another purpose emerged – helping to grow the fledgling community around EVE Galaxy Conquest. As I mentioned in my game review, many of my fellow gaming journalists were pretty harsh on the game, judging it at surface level without digging into the gameplay or the social side. That challenge (and my own curiosity) led to some interesting discoveries.

And here we are, nine months in. The EGC community now plays a huge role in what I do. I want to thank every reader, supporter, and friend – your kind words, help, and even the occasional donation motivate me to keep going, learn new skills, and make my content better and more accessible.

Challenges of Indie Blogging

Trying to “get better” is always a challenge, especially solo. As an indie blogger, I have to do everything – writing, research, visuals, coding, site tweaks, socials… and then find time to stay curious! The biggest challenge: deciding whether to push out a new post, or dig into the endless backlog of site fixes, updates, and UX quirks I accepted as “temporary” months ago.

Site-wide Updates

Something that always bugged me: links. I love sharing them so readers can check sources and dive deeper, but they were never as visible as I wanted. Now, links have color highlights for better visibility (though I did drop underlines, which helps readability, especially in tables of contents).

Background colors changed from gray to pure white to improve contrast and make the site more accessible—especially for those with vision difficulties. I want everyone to be able to read comfortably, no matter their screen or eyesight. A few pages still need updating, but the whole site will eventually get these design tweaks.

Old design, poor readability.

Another small upgrade – a “back to top” button with a little progress bar. My posts are quite lengthy, so this should make navigating long reads a little easier.

EVE Galaxy Conquest Page Rebuild

As you know, I don’t just write guides – I actually play the game and use those guides myself (especially the new grid capture calculator). The old EGC page only showed the latest 8 posts, with the rest hidden behind a “show more” button. Yes, there’s a handy search bar at the top (give it a try!), but for the past five months, Google has discarded my site as “not a reliable source of information.” So if you’re searching from Google, you might not see my posts—while Bing, DuckDuckGo, and some other engines still pick up my content just fine.

Anyway, I’ve rebuilt the EGC page from scratch—so go check it out and let me know what you think! It’s now a real index of 27+ guides, organized by theme with a table of contents for quick scans and short blurbs on each link. I hope this makes it easier to find something you missed.

First Ad – Me!

Long-time readers know my stance on ads, paywalls, and all that. This site is so clean it doesn’t even need a cookie disclaimer. I don’t collect anything except basic visit stats (mainly to check that the site’s alive and kicking). Sure, some say I’m missing out on profit, but monetization isn’t my thing – unless I somehow get the chance to quit my day job and work on this full-time. That’s why every voluntary tip is so meaningful to me. I don’t hide anything behind paywalls or offer fancy rewards—just honest words of gratitude and the promise that your support helps keep this site alive. If you’d like to chip in, you’ll find a Ko-fi button right here.

Still, I did sneak in one “ad” – a banner to follow my socials! Some content is time-sensitive, and it’s a shame when people miss it.

Two EVE Galaxy Conquest commanders in a comic-style scene. One announces “Breaking news; another nerf!” while the other replies, “Don’t panic. kekbur.net always posts the real patch notes.” Banner tagline says, “Tap to follow @KekburNet for EGC leaks, memes, and news!” with a large blue Follow button.

WordPress’s built-in subscription tool is quite popular; I have 17 subscribers, 12 by accident after a misconfigured guide. So if you want to stay up to date, just follow me wherever you prefer. I don’t spam, and every post, meme, or bit of silliness you find here is made by me, with my own hands.

Feedback Needed

I spot a lot myself, but this site is for you – so please let me know what works (or doesn’t), especially with the new page design. I’ll keep rebuilding old pages and try to fill out categories that feel a bit empty. And yes, a big announcement is coming soon (cue the mysterious teaser music…). Stay tuned!
