Fast travel in Nightingale is essential for efficiently managing resources, exploring realms, and optimizing your base location. Ada’s Lodestar: The Classic Teleporter

The Ada’s Lodestar (previously called Fae’s) is essentially a classic teleporter that you can unlock in the Progress Tree Tier 2. It’s relatively inexpensive to craft, and you can have up to 10 personal Lodestars in a single realm. You can place them almost anywhere, and they don’t require a foundation. One useful feature of the Lodestar is that it prevents creatures from spawning within a ~70-meter radius (tip: you can measure distance by using a spyglass marking).

Key Benefits:

  • Instant Teleportation: Since the Lodestar operates within the same realm, there’s no loading time.
  • Common Uses: It’s great for fast travel between commonly visited points like your fishing dock, garden, or the various floors of your levitating base. Some players also use it to farm rare mob respawn points, such as Grendels and Harpies.

Limitations:

  • Same Realm Only: Lodestars only allow teleportation within the same realm. To travel between realms, you’ll need a Crude Portal or another method.

Crude Portal: Travel Between Realms

The Crude Portal allows you to travel between any realm, including storyline worlds. To activate it, you’ll need to place a Major Realm Card, choose your difficulty, and open the portal. You can also use portals as static gates to specific worlds by renaming them (hold E by default).

Key Benefits:

  • Versatile: Crude Portals let you jump between any realms, making them essential for realm-walking adventures.
  • Mixed Usage: Players often use a mix of static portals to key realms and disposable portals that can be reset as needed. This is why many bases include a dedicated portal room or even separate building.

Limitations:

  • Loading Times: Crude Portals require two loading phases—first to open the portal and then the realm’s loading screen.

Static ‘Old’ Realmic Portals

These portals are scattered across the realms and function similarly to Crude Portals, there are always 1 portal on each realm, and they are marked on your map. However, unlike Crude Portals, you cannot build or move these portals—they are fixed in specific locations.

Key Benefits:

  • Preset Locations: You’ll find these as part of your journey, adding an element of discovery.

Limitations:

  • Immobility: Since they can’t be moved, they aren’t always convenient for base placement or frequent travel.

Estate Cairn: Your Personal Respite

The Estate Cairn allows you to teleport directly to your personal respite. While you can build multiple Estate Cairns, only one can be active at a time. Once placed, you’ll see an option on your map UI (hotkey M) to “Travel to Respite”, instantly teleporting you to your active Cairn.

Key Benefits:

  • Fast Travel to Base: This is the most common method players use to quickly return to their base. Be it another realm, apex vault or same realm as Cairn is located.
  • Character Selection: From the character selection screen, you can also choose “Travel to Respite” to load your character near the Cairn.

Limitations:

  • Only One: Sadly, you can have only one at the time.

Travel to The Crossways

This option on your map allows you to teleport to Abeyance Forest, the storyline realm you first visit when creating a new character. It’s a visually striking location with stone henge-like structures and numerous static portals that unlock as you progress through the story.

Key Benefits:

  • Access Storyline Realms: These portals open as you advance in the game, giving you access to specific storyline locations. There are 8 of them. No need to build Crude portals to access these 8 worlds.

Limitations:

  • Static Locations: These portals are fixed and can’t be customized or moved.
  • Interest loss: Since you cant open them for Tier 4 resources farming, they are not particularly interesting for end-game content.

Travel to The Watch

The Watch is a human sanctuary filled with Essence Traders and Apex Vaults. To unlock this realm, you need to complete the main storyline. The Watch serves as a public realm where you can meet other players, but note that building and item usage are restricted here.

Key Benefits:

  • Player Interaction: The Watch is a shared realm where you can interact (sort of) with other players, making it great for socializing.

Limitations:

  • No Building or Item Usage: You can’t build structures or use items here, so it’s not ideal for personal tasks. However, future updates may introduce new features like player-run shops (my fantasy hehe) or additional interaction options.

Conclusion: Choosing the Best Fast Travel Method

Each fast travel method in Nightingale serves a specific purpose depending on your needs and gameplay style. Here’s how to make the most of each:

  • Lodestars: Ideal for navigating within the same realm, especially when managing multiple points of interest like farming spots, fishing docks (like in my fishing guide), or multi-level bases. Their instant teleportation with no load time makes them invaluable for efficient realm management.
  • Crude Portals: Best for realmwalking or progressing through different realms, particularly when you have established key worlds for resource farming (you might be interesting in my Tier 3 or Tier 4 Essences farming guides). By naming portals, you can create a seamless transportation network between realms for quick access to key locations.
  • Estate Cairn: Perfect for those who frequently return to their base after long expeditions. This is the go-to option for personal teleportation back to your home base, making it the preferred fast travel method for home-oriented players.
  • The Watch and The Crossways: These are your hubs for meeting other players, and getting end-game items from Essence Traders, or progressing the Apex Vaults.

Choosing the right fast travel method for each task will significantly improve your experience and efficiency in the game. Whether you’re setting up a resource hub, farming rare mobs, or simply getting back to base quickly, understanding how to best utilize these options will make your adventures in Nightingale smoother and more enjoyable.
